"Remembering to
Rebuild" - Honoring Nature and Resilience
Under the theme of "تنذكر تما تنعاد," which
translates to "Remembering to Rebuild," the Council of Environment
extended an invitation to all nature activists for a memorial evening, both
environmental and cinematic. This event took place at the Environmental Tower
in the scorched and deforested Mar Ghanem Forest, marking the second
anniversary of the most significant wildfire that devastated Lebanon's forests.
The gathering was a poignant reminder of the importance of safeguarding the
environment and taking collective action.
Participation in this event
was diverse, including representatives from Akkar Trail, the Civil Defense,
volunteer firefighters, and young individuals from various towns in Akkar, such
as Kobayat, Andaket, Akroum, Akkar Al-Atiqa, Fneidq, Meshmesh, and others.
The evening began with a
moment of silence, a solemn tribute to the plant and animal life lost during
the wildfire. Dr. Antoine Daher then took the floor, addressing the attendees
and drawing attention to the fact that the investigation results were still
pending. He pointed out the unfortunate recurrence of such incidents and the
frequent lack of accountability for those responsible.
A key feature of the event
was the screening of two short films:
1. "Season of
Fire" by George Saad
2. "Birth from the
Ashes" by Joseph Ibrahim
Following the film screening,
a discussion took place, examining the causes and consequences of the wildfire,
the present status of the scorched region, and the prospects for the forests'
future. Attendees also had the unique opportunity to engage in dialogues with
the directors of the two films, gaining insights into the creative process and
the intended impact of their work.
To conclude the evening,
Antonio Maiki delivered a final address. He recounted the sequence of events
that transpired on that ill-fated day, shedding light on the studies conducted
in the burnt area, emphasizing the significance of understanding the fire's
repercussions.
The "Remembering to
Rebuild" event represented a pivotal moment for environmental awareness
and reflection. It underscored the critical need for responsible forest
management and environmental protection. Bringing together a diverse group of stakeholders
symbolized a collective commitment to remembering the past while actively
striving to rebuild a sustainable and resilient future for Akkar.
The event serves as a
reminder that even in the face of environmental challenges, nature and
communities can recover, rebuild, and thrive with the support of passionate
individuals working together.

والصمود
تحت شعار "تنذكر تما تنعاد"،
دعا مجلس البيئة جميع نشطاء الطبيعة لحضور مساء تذكاري، بيئي وسينمائي. نُظم هذا
الحدث في برج البيئة في غابة مرغان المحروقة والمدمرة، احتفالًا بالذكرى الثانية
لأكبر حريق دمر الغابات اللبنانية. كانت هذه الفعالية تذكيرًا مؤثرًا بأهمية
الحفاظ على البيئة واتخاذ إجراء جماعي.
شهد الحدث مشاركة متنوعة من ممثلي درب
عكار، والدفاع المدني، ومتطوعي فرق الإطفاء، وشباب وشابات من بلدات متنوعة في
عكار، مثل القبيات، وعندقت، وأكروم، وعكار العتيقة، وفنيدق، ومشمش، وغيرها
بدأت السهرة بلحظة صمت، تحية اجلال
للنباتات والحيوانات التي فقدت خلال الحريق. ثم تحدث الدكتور أنطوان ضاهر، موجهًا
كلمة إلى الحاضرين، وشدد على أهمية الانتظار لنتائج التحقيق الجاري. وأشار إلى
العودة المؤسفة لمثل هذه الأحداث وندرة محاسبة المتورطين.

بعد عرض الأفلام، جرى نقاش تناول أسباب
وآثار الحريق، والوضع الحالي للمنطقة المحروقة، وآفاق مستقبل الغابات. كما أتاح
الحدث للحضور الفرصة الفريدة للتفاعل مع مخرجي الفيلمين واستزادوا من وفهم عملية
الإبداع والتأثير المقصود به
في ختام السهرة، ألقى أنطونيو معيكي
كلمة ختامية. قدّم خلالها سردًا لتسلسل الأحداث التي جرت في ذلك اليوم المشؤوم،
وسلط الضوء على الدراسات التي أُجريت في المنطقة المتضررة.
